MUSEEA is a Stockholm-based studio founded in 2009 by Sofia Hedman and Serge Martynov, who work as exhibition designers, curators, and artists. The studio designs exhibitions for cultural institutions and foundations, curates its own projects, and undertakes public art commissions and architectural collaborations.
The studio accepts a small number of commissions each year. MUSEEA's exhibitions are authored environments—to be entered rather than viewed—where form, atmosphere, and materiality carry the narrative alongside the objects. The same concerns extend to the studio's work in public space. Several recent projects have been the largest exhibitions each host institution has ever produced, including Nordic Life at Nordiska museet, Theatre Costume—Abecedarium of Illusions at Scenkonstmuseet, and Dreamland at Tekniska Museet. Two of the studio's exhibitions have been named Exhibition of the Year by the Association of Swedish Museums: Utopian Bodies—Fashion Looks Forward (Liljevalchs, 2015) and Nordic Life (Nordiska museet, 2024).
Long-standing partners include the National Museum of Qatar, with whom MUSEEA has worked since 2022 on several commissioned exhibitions, and Nordiska museet, where the studio designed two major permanent exhibitions. MUSEEA has also designed two permanent exhibitions for Östergötlands museum, Realities and Our Way Here, contributing to its recognition as Museum of the Year by the Association of Swedish Museums. Other selected partners include the Museum of Pop Culture (MoPOP), Seattle; the New Orleans Museum of Art; Somerset House; and Kasthall, for whom MUSEEA designed the flagship store in Stockholm (2023).
Since 2020, the studio has been commissioned by Region Skåne as the artists shaping the architectural expression of FORTH—The Future of Orthopaedics in Hässleholm, a 24,000 m² orthopaedic hospital developed in collaboration with Krook & Tjäder Architects. Construction is underway; the building opens in 2028.
A particular line of MUSEEA's work concerns fashion, dress, and the body. Authored projects in this area include Utopian Bodies and A Queen Within—Adorned Archetypes, which opened with a curated exhibition at Christie's New York in 2013 and toured for over a decade across six US venues. The studio's most recent exhibition in this area, Theatre Costume—Abecedarium of Illusions, opened at Scenkonstmuseet in 2025.
